This is us

This is us.

We are the businessmen, the teachers
We are the believers and the dreamers
The followers and the leaders
We are the determined and we are the leavers

This is us.

We are that kid who was bullied on his way home from school
We are the popular kid who has just been called a tool
We are the ones who love all through the night
And we are the marriages constantly ending in fights

We are the the high school stars
And the walk home loners
We are the cute cheerleaders,
And the hermit on the corner

We are the dreams we dream, that never come true.
And the happiness we feel when they finally do.
And the relief, when we hear, I love you too

This is us.

We are the hate we give and the love we get
And we are everything that we ever regret
The girl who we will never forget
And the boy whose first love hasn't happened yet.

We are the greenhouses gases consuming this earth
We are the fire truck drivers for years after birth
We are the change that we never, ever, see in this world.
We are the backwoods boys,
And we are the golden girls

We are the lifetime we never had.
We are all the dumb reasons we've had to be mad
We are the metaphoric rain that makes us sad
And we are the unfortunate kid wearing miss matching plaid

This is us.

We are the beginning and we are the end
We are where we are going, And we are where we've been
Struggling, as individuals over and over again

This is us.

  1. Ah-maze-ing.
I love it. If it's any better out loud than it is on paper I might just cry.

"We are the dreams we dream, that never come true.
And the happiness we feel when they finally do.
And the relief, when we hear, I love you too."
    This was my favorite stanza.
