Closing Speech

When it comes time to say what I've done
With this life of mine
As if talking about a purchase
Or investment
The way lawyers talk about their suits
And business executives talk about their balance sheets
When the poets speak their life in rhythm
Musical talent sing their path in song
What do I say
When asked to write my own?

I've lived.

Because that is what happened
Indeed,
Just like any other Joe, average or otherwise.
